The Dave Whitlock NearNuff Sculpin School
The NEARNUFF Sculpin SCHOOL - FOR INTERMEDIATE FLY TYERS
Taught by Allen Rupp, Dave Whitlock's Designated Legacy Tyer
Dave Whitlock invited me to spend time with him learning how to correctly tie his flies, so I could pass that knowledge on after he was gone. This class is that knowledge passed on.
Allen teaches the NearNuff Sculpin exactly how Dave tied it, not a simplified version, and why every material and step is there.
The NearNuff Sculpin imitates Darters, Gobies, Mad Toms, and Stone Cats, the bottom-hugging baitfish that big Trout and Bass hunt down instead of rising for. Once you understand why this fly works, you'll know when to fish it and why it produces.
This class runs approximately 2.5 hours and is broken down into sections:
- Meet & greet
- NearNuff Sculpin tying instruction:
- Allen demonstrates how to tie it
- Students tie with Allen's step-by-step assistance
- Each student ties a fly on their own
- A short talk on where and how to fish the fly
All tying materials will be provided, and each student will also receive:
- A NearNuff Sculpin, tied by Allen, to take home as a reference
- A bottle of Zap-A-Gap
- A one-year membership to Trout Unlimited, or a one-year extension if you're already a member
