The Dave Whitlock NearNuff Crayfish School
THE NEARNUFF CRAYFISH SCHOOL - FOR INTERMEDIATE FLY TYERS
Taught by Allen Rupp, Dave Whitlock's Designated Legacy Tyer
Dave Whitlock invited me to spend time with him learning how to correctly tie his flies, so I could pass that knowledge on after he was gone. This class is that knowledge passed on.
Allen teaches the NearNuff Crayfish exactly how Dave tied it, hand-painted claws and all, not a simplified version.
There are more than 400 species of Crayfish in North America, and Trout, Bass, and Carp all hunt them down. A crayfish scrambling for cover triggers one of the most reliable reaction strikes in fishing, which makes this fly worth having no matter what you're chasing.
This class runs approximately two hours and is broken down into sections:
- Meet & greet
- NearNuff Crayfish tying instruction:
- Allen demonstrates how to tie it
- Students tie with Allen's step-by-step assistance
- Each student ties a fly on their own
- A short talk on where and how to fish the fly
All tying materials will be provided, and each student will also receive:
- A NearNuff Crayfish , tied by Allen, to take home as a reference
- A bottle of Zap-A Gap
- A one-year membership to Trout Unlimited , or a one-year extension if you're already a member
